A Huge Breakthrough for Hawai‘i
BioEnergy Hawaii, LLC is a project development company, established to address the fundamental problems associated with the current waste disposal operations in Hawai‘i. BioEnergy Hawaii has partnered with community leaders and industry experts to develop sustainable solutions through innovative waste treatment and alternative energy operations. BioEnergy Hawaii is committed to working alongside the residents and businesses in Hawai‘i to encourage and support numerous initiatives, including environmental stewardship, sustainable communities, and economic growth.
Environmental Stewardship: The resource recovery initiatives will substantially increase the landfill diversion and recycling rate and reduce environmental impacts associated with landfill disposal operations. By diverting waste from landfills, and utilizing the material for beneficial purposes, Hawai‘i can achieve reduced land and water pollution as well as reduced greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions.

A 2011 County of Hawai‘i study identified 31% of the County GHG emissions are produced by the two operating landfills.
Community: Sustainable resource management will foster self-sufficiency on the island through the recovery of “wasted” resources to provide baseload renewable energy, advanced biofuels, and nutrient-rich soil products. This helps the community to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels for transportation and power generation, in order to promote energy security.
Economic: These initiatives will provide new employment opportunities in the “green” technology industry as well as support existing and new local businesses. Value-added products from the project operations will increase recovered commodities for the recycling industry, provide clean renewable energy for residents and businesses, and return lost nutrients to the soil to support the agricultural industry.
